PYRGI

Pyrgi is one of the most famous places of Chios and this old village still stands as it was built. Pyrgi is also called the painted village because of the superb decoration of its houses. The unique black and white geometrical decor of the outer walls of the houses made Pyrgi so special. This style came from Italy (Chios was under the occupation of the Franks). The stone houses are built close one to each other, forming a defensive wall. You can see also balconies full of sun-dried tomatoes ;)
